A World that Works

Where the possibility is brought to life.

About

As a skilled public strategist and facilitator, Robyn has transformed communities with her creative approaches to “public” building. With almost 20 years of political and community organizing and five years as a strategic developer, Robyn is able to develop and deliver progressive community concepts working with people of a range of skills, interests and ages. A graduate of Huston-Tillotson University and a current graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin in Community & Regional Planning, Robyn brings to her work openness, thoughtfulness, simple brilliance, passion and hope.

Robyn learned “in the trenches” how important inclusion and communication is for the building of cohesive and sustainable communities. In addition to this insight she noticed the gap in the development of public leaders and the participation of individuals in solving community issues in our society and more directly of African Americans. She has used her governmental relations and strategic planning skills to create altering initiatives.

She has combined her natural ability to identify social issues and strategize for solutions with her desire for everyone to be full participants in the world by coaching public leaders along with researching, creating and writing on public leadership qualities; Global Citizen curriculum development, instruction and promotion; and team/organization strategic plan development and achievement consulting.

In all three of these “cutting edge” disciplines Robyn is at the forefront with few across the nation.

She is a contributing author in a book which is a compilation of writings by professional coaches that lays out the difference as they see it that coaching public leaders makes. Robyn is using this opportunity to discuss the coupling affect of the absence of authentic, bold and passionate leaders in and leadership affecting communities of color.

Robyn’s passion for her work has called her to developing a Global Citizen curriculum that she began teaching at a small private school. Through this course young people between grades 6-12 explore the interdependence of the world. She intentionally creates scenarios for the leadership skills of the 21st Century to be developed. Her Global Citizens’ Forums are now taught to over 200 young people weekly and will be broadened to 400 beginning fall ’06. She is working to make this available to educators nationwide.

In addition to the classroom setting exposure young people join her organization, World Preparatory, on Explorations around the world. To date over 25 young people have traveled to understand personally how the world works to Senegal, Guatemala, Kenya, Brazil and Playa de Carmen.

She recently completed her assignment as a contributor to the Kettering Foundation’s research group on Teaching Public Politics and is on the advisory board of Texas Forums an affiliate member of the LBJ Library & Museum family of organizations that works to create a culture of dialogue across Texas.

Among her civic activities, she is the founder of Austin.Listen., an initiative supported by Texas Forum to foster dialogue about race and equity in Austin, Texas. She is the former director of the Executive Management Group that oversees the operations and restoration of The Historic Victory Grill, a former member of the Austin Area Heritage Council, founding member of Transformational Leadership for Global Communities and Executive board member of Humanitarians Engaged through Arts for Respectful Dialogue.

Robyn has been a panelist on topics ranging from Engaging Young, Gifted and Talented to Race in America and a presenter at DemFest ’05.

Based in Austin, TX Robyn delights in the raising of her two teenage daughters
